Onishka Productions, under the artistic direction of Emilie Monnet, will present Indigenous Contemporary Scene at OFFTA Festival this year. An eclectic mix of emerging and established Indigenous artists all working at the convergence of the past, the present, and the future – defying boundaries with their multidisciplinary arts practices.
Interdisciplinary artist and artistic director Emilie Monnet will present TSEKAN, a combination of poetry, Indigenous language, and technology. In the not-too-distant future, a giant, turtle-shaped starship lands on Earth. TSEKAN reminds us what is at stake in today’s world asking what future awaits us, if any exists at all? Maria Hupfield is jarring in her hybrid performance and conversation with Alanis Obomsawin, a form of intergenerational community building, in Post Performance/ Conversation Action. In Landline : From Mashteuiatsh to Montréal to Wendake, XOSECRET and Productions Menuentakuan invite audiences to play the dual role of voyeur and accomplice in an audio-guided, experiential tour of the territory using their cellphone. Cree cellist Cris Derksen and Frannie Holder (Dear Criminals) define new artistic territories through musical collaboration in MixOFF.
