Montreal.<\/strong><\/h5><p><br \/><em>Marguerite : la pierre<\/em> is a co-production with the Centre du Th\u00e9\u00e2tre d&#8217;Aujourd&#8217;hui, co-presented with the PHI Foundation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-601df248 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Taking the form of a journey through Old Montreal, listeners will be able to get to know Marguerite Duplessis through the lens of the memory of the place. St. Paul Street in Montreal was the main artery of life for slaves in New France.<\/p><p>Traces of this past are still discretely visible on the stone facades of the period, even though slavery seems to have been forgotten in the collective memory. Guided by the voice of \u00c9milie Monnet, the walkers will be able to access history other than through the archives; that of Marguerite, but of all the others too. \u00c9milie&#8217;s poetic reflections will be interwoven with those of Rito Joseph, Anik Sioui, Denyse Beaugrand-Champagne and Kevin Deer, to offer another prism on the history of slavery in Quebec.<\/p><p>Through these different proposals, the artist mobilizes important historical research and draws powerful parallels between the African slave trade deported to Martinique, the slavery of Aboriginal women and the violence they still suffer today.<\/p><p>Throughout the sound journey, the artist&#8217;s voice and those of five guests take us on a journey through time, to meet Marguerite Duplessis and a troubled past, still unknown, in a place where the stone still discreetly bears the traces.<\/p><p>The first slave and the first native to have fought legally for her freedom in New France, Marguerite Duplessis is one of the many heroines forgotten by history.<\/p><p>Inspired by the resistance and the thirst for freedom that guided this activist&#8217;s struggle, \u00c9milie Monnet pays her a vibrant tribute with a triad of events on collective amnesia, recovered memory and resilience.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element I trod the stone and volcanic rock, crossed the river where freshwater meets salt, and listened to the wind in Martinique.
