MISION

ARTISTIC APPROACH

With her Montreal-based company, Émilie Monnet aims to create innovative bridges between the Francophone and Anglophone indigenous artistic communities in Quebec, Canada, and across the globe. She favours collaborative and decolonising processes of creation to infuse the dialogue with new perspectives and to pose challenging questions about our world today. With ONISHKA, Émilie explores the potential of creative works to act as catalysts in collective and individual transformation, and to protect indigenous worldviews.

While drawing inspiration from ancestral knowledge and the rich symbolism of dreams and visions, ONISHKA synthesizes technology to create a powerful and innovative visual signature in its productions. Technology renders the invisible, visible, and enables expansive experimentation in new modes of storytelling.

By creating unique performances that reflect the varied medley of voices today—a far cry from clichés and folklore— ONISHKA hopes to contribute to the dissemination of indigenous performing arts.
